The Stadium was officially opened in 1993, under the name Gosford City Basketball and sports stadium, this name originated from the Gosford City Basketball competition which was originally held in Gosford, prior to the stadium being constructed. At this time, the stadium had 500 members (founders).
Whilst built on Council land the venue was built independently operated and maintained by a volunteer Board of Directors and appointed management and staff. The venue receives no significant financial assistance from Local, State or Federal Government and the organisation gained a loan with National Australia Bank.
Central Coast Basketball now has approximately 3,000 registered members who participate in activities held on a weekly basis.
The organisations core business is basketball, with the facility being a multi-purpose indoor venue with 4 Championship-sized courts and a grandstand capable of housing up to 1000 people. In addition to this, there is significant office space, an air-conditioned mezzanine with cooking facilities, which can cater for small classes, seminars and functions, and a fully functional canteen which has a wide variety of food & beverages.
The Stadium is also the Home of the Central Coast Rebels Junior and Central Coast Crusaders Senior Representative Teams who compete in sanctioned Basketball NSW competitions and events.
The stadium has evolved from being a Basketball Stadium to becoming a SPORTS STADIUM. Including netball, volleyball, dancing, cheerleading, community events, exercise classes and school holiday camps.
The venue can accommodate large sporting events such as the recent NSW Senior Waratah League Grand Finals, Under 20’s State Championships and National under 20’s Tournament and Sydney Kings Pre-Season Games.
Along with events such as expos, computer markets, book fairs and trade shows which can see thousands of attendees visit the stadium.
We have a dynamic Board of Directors who possess a range of skills and come from a variety of different business backgrounds with achievements reaching to the top of their respective industries.
The stadium has recently entered into an exciting partnership with Breakers Country Club, rebranding to ‘Breakers Indoor Sports Stadium’. The stadium continues to be solely responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the building, relying on the support of our generous sponsors and applying for grants.
Central Coast Basketball have a real focus on what the future holds with plans to expand our facilities to be able to accommodate our members and growing demand from the local community to use our facilities. The expansion plans to double the number of games with an additional two courts, a gym and a café.
We are currently working with our architect and consultants with the view of lodging a development application with Central Coast Council by Mid 2020.
